Incorporating the New HAES Principles into the Treatment of Eating Disorders Through CFT and Body Compassion
January 15 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am PST
Join Sara Mischler, LPC, and Mary Elizabeth Akinaka, LPC, CEDS-S, for a webinar on “Incorporating the New HAES Principles into the Treatment of Eating Disorders Through CFT and Body Compassion.” The webinar begins Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 9:00 AM PT/ 11:00 AM CT/ 12:00 PM ET. We are offering 1 CE hour through APA, CDR, and NBCC for live attendance.
Abstract:
This presentation will focus on the sociocultural factors that led to the creation of the Health at Every Size (HAES) principles in 2003 as well as their evolution over the last 20 years. It will also delve into the current principles released in 2023, as well as the new HAES Framework of Care, an addition that clearly defines the core elements necessary in the provision of equitable healthcare for humans of all body sizes. Because compassion is at the core of HAES, the presentation will also look at how its principles dovetail with the Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) approach to eating disorder treatment. A brief overview of CFT and strategies, particularly for body compassion and embodiment, will be provided to pair the two when working with clients with eating disorders.
Objectives:
– Define Compassion and Body Compassion: Explain the concept of compassion and body compassion and the relevance in the context of eating disorders.
– Explore the Impact of Movement: Discuss how different attitudes towards movement can affect individuals with eating disorders and their recovery.
– Identify Therapeutic Strategies: Present practical interventions for integrating body compassion into practice to support clients in redefining their relationship with movement.
– Encourage Intuitive Movement: Highlight ways to guide clients toward intuitive and joyful engagement with movement, rather than punitive exercise.
